Only 10 to 15 tiny holes are visible on the tips of six of Chandler Anthony’s fingers.

What lies beneath the scar tissue is roughly 13,000 more pricks accumulated over the past four and a half years, the result of the St. Andrew’s senior’s battle with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes.

“These six fingers,” said Anthony, making the hand gesture for OK to show the tips, “each one gets at least one little prick a day.”

It’s part of a routine he’ll showcase to U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering next week, part of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Children’s Congress 2007 in Washington, D.C…
